It's the sweet smells of baked goods and perfume in book two of the Bread and Batter Mysteries. Molly Tyler and Olivia Williams own Bread and Batter Bakery where they make scrumptious bagels and cupcakes for their customers. Molly has a lot to worry about when she sees he mother lunching with Phillip Baldelli of the Library Advisory Board. Molly's mother is also the library director, a position that someone else wants....badly they are discussing the expansion of the library.

After their meeting they are seen arguing in the parking lot and Serefina, owner of her own perfume company comes to town who is grand-niece to Phillip finds him dead in his home. It is brought to light that someone was threatening Phillip not give money for the expansion of the library. The police discover that Phillips death is suspicious and protesters  rally around the library, all the while inside Bread and Batter the customers debate the library's expansion.

The romance and drama with Molly and Detective Sean Corsino, who is investigating the case is heating up with romance and drama when he is in a accident and in the hospital. When Molly's mother Annie is found to be the number one suspect for the murder of Phillip. Molly knows that someone is trying to set her mother up and Molly finds unconventional ways and finds herself in danger to find the real killer when she must sniff out a growing list of suspects that go way back, she must find a way to survive to live to bake another day.

A Lighthearted mystery full of drama, a little romance and a killer with a agenda. Cupcakes and bagels and Bread and Batter Bakery are Molly's passion but finding the person who is framing her mother even if it means putting her mother on the suspect list makes Molly a very likable ameteur sleuth. Foodies will adore Raisin the Dead. I can't wait to visit Bread and Batter Bakery with Molly,Sean and her family and friends in the next book.

When friend, Kelly Kaufman rents China's cottage behind Thyme and Season's she gets more then she bargains for. After Kelly is found driven off the road and the cottage is burglarized China is now drawn into a complicated web of fraud and murder. Once Kelly's laptop is found in the crash China, Reporter Jessica Nelson and Kelly's friend Lara set out to find the killer. However once she starts digging, China finds that Kelly had more then her fair share of adversaries in her life. Cheating husband, his mistress and hostile business partner, along side the person or people behind the fraud and murder investigation she started.

While China is investigating this tragedy she is also confronted with deception in her personal life leading her to question her trust for McQuaid and the life they have built. Between Thyme and Season's, Caitie and the investigation she has more then enough on her plate. Yet when business partner and friend, Ruby draws on a vision she has that China needs to beware she still goes full steam ahead and straight into the killers clutches.

I really got into this story, it was very informative of what kind of advantages can be taken of the elderly and the health care system and how the legal system could succeed and can fail. I felt that with this story I got a truer sense of who China is and how her mind works. With Bittersweet it seemed she took more of a back seat in the story and Mackenzie Chamber's character was put in the spotlight due to the nature of the story.

I do enjoy how both were written, it seems more truer to real life then some of the cozy mysteries where the amateur sleuth is always center stage. I loved the core characters, China, Ruby and Caitie. I love how animals were interjected into the story. Especially Khat and Winchester. I truly enjoyed the two books I have read from these series and decided to read it from the beginning.

Book Review/Giveaway: Bittersweet by Susan Wittig Albert

 Title: Bittersweet

Series: Book 23 China Bayles Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime Mystery
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher

 Reviewed by: Marlene

China Bayles and her whole interweaving family are getting together at her mother's and step-father's ranch Bittersweet in South Texas for Thanksgiving. Just as interweaving as her family is the legal mess she will get herself in, in one holiday weekend. Even with her step-father in the hospital and her mother putting up her facade of the strong southern woman. China might be the one cracking by the end of the weekend.

When Sue Ellen a young woman with aspiring dreams and a bad marriage comes to China for help, China is apprehensive but this woman may be the answer to her mother's problems while her step-father recuperates. Feeling guilty at the same time that she may even be shunning her own duties as a daughter. While Sue Ellen reluctantly tells China the troubles her husband, Jack has involved himself in, they both realize she may be just as in trouble for her knowledge.

China is also in town to visit with her friend Mackenzie Chambers, a Game Warden in the area. At the same time Mack is investigating what could be the start of a huge smuggling case involving smuggling fawns and big antler bucks into Texas. Due to the threat of disease it has made it illegal but without these big antlered bucks men in the trophy hunting business wouldn't be in the competition. Soon China sees that both are connected and before anything can be done it all comes to a tragic end.

I haven't read the China Bayle's Mysteries before and I am pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. I love the fast pace writing, that the story seems to have a more ensamble cast of characters then just following the story of the lead character and how Ms. Wittig Albert brings her characters to life. I thoroughly enjoyed China and Mack as strong willed women as well. I look forward to the next chapter in China Bayle's life, in Blood Orange. Review to be posted Wednesday April 27th.

Book Review/Giveaway: Needle and Dread by Elizabeth Lynn Casey

 Title: Needle and Dread
 Author: Elizabeth Lynn Casey
Series: Book 11 A Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for Review From Publisher
Star Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
 Reviewed by: Tina

I was so happy when I discovered the A Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries for two reasons, one being, I just learned basic sewing and it was something my mother taught me that I never caught on to until now and I was really proud of myself for learning and the fact that there's a character in the series named, Margaret Louise, My middle names happen to be Margaret Louise in that order so I just had to see what she was all about and It turned out she has spunk and I like her a lot.

There's a new sewing shop in Sweet Briar, South Carolina Carolina called SewTastic run by ex rivals and members of the Southern Sewing Circle, Leona Elkins and Rose Winters. Margaret Louise is Leona's twin sister and librarian, Tori are all part of the sewing circle and are all the best of friends. SewTastic is having a inaugural crafting weekend, where customers can make custom sewing projects and SewTasic's shelves are filled with what customers can sew with printed instructions beside each piece and being a beginner sewer I know I would love to visit SewTastic.

A Tour bus with sewing aficionados is heading to SewTasic for the crafting weekend but it does not go as planned when a negative and nasty reviewer, Opal Goodwin is not satisfied with the customer service and is down right mean to everyone and wants refunds. But when Opal is found slumped atop of her sewing machine dead in the project room someone in the shop may be the murderer. Tori wants to investigate to help friend, Rose find happiness again because SewTastic has given her a new lease on life.

Tori has to thread more stitches than she bargains for when she discovers that everyone has something against her and something to hide. Filled with Sweet Southern Romance. The Southern Sewing Circle Ladies Meet up to chat over food, needle and thread and murder. I loved the setting of the SewTasic shop because I love Cozy Mysteries that are big on the themes and this didn't disappoint.

It was very fast paced for a cozy mystery set in the South. At times, laugh out loud funny with fun loving, sweet and genuine down to earth and zany characters, like Margaret Louise with her truth serum brownies. The only fault that I had was the romance I thought was a little over the top for me but if you love romance Tori and and her new husband make the perfect couple. I look forward to catching up on this series and reading the next book.

Crystal Haven is getting all set up for it's annual Founder's Day celebration, along with this celebration comes with an unlikely addition of a zombie fun run to as part of a fundraiser for the local animal shelter. Clyde although regretting already to be a runner then a zombie is proud her nephew, Seth and long-time friend, Alex has organized this. Although some of the town folk feel it takes away from their traditional festivities, the majority of town decides to move forward with it.

Everything seems to be coming along nicely until the surprise visit of Clyde's sister, Grace and her husband, Paul decide to come for a visit. Clyde now somewhat worried they are here to take Seth home also, harbors years of estranged feelings towards her sister and wonder why they chose this weekend to come. Once Grace arrives long lost truths and secrets start to bubble to the surface for the Fortune family.

Grace who is gifted with the site of numbers and does very well for herself in New York seems to shun the others talents for tarot readings, seeking lost objects or speaking with animals. She also has secrets of her own that put Clyde and her boyfriend, Mac in a life changing prediciment. All this stemming from the unsavory elements of their life back in New York. That is till Grace's high school sweetheart is found dead after the zombie run and Clyde has to choose to be the bigger sister and help clear her name. Only it is going to be a hard road when all the leads keep pointing back to her sister and she keeps finding herself having to keep one secret or another to herself.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was fun, fast paced and gave you lots of misgiving leads. It had the right amount of family drama and romance. I love Clyde she is a strong female lead that look for in every story I read. The characters are great, I loved all of them and love to hate some of them. Especially enjoyed Grace's character, she was definitely a love to hate her one. One of those women that thinks she is to good for her own family, their gift but still seems to gain from it. I think she deserved what she has in the end.

As a Elvis fan, I loved Vanilla Beaned from the very first line “Viva Las Vegas” . As Tate Harper Sang. I knew that the Fairy Tale Bakery gang, Friends and owners Mel, Angie and Tate were heading to The Fabulous Las Vegas. Tate is all for opening a new franchise in Las Vegas and Mel on the other hand is not keen on the idea.

Holly Hartzmark, a showgirl who wants out of the life to spend more time with her daughter has dreams of being a cupcake baker and is investing a quarter of a million dollars to start a new Fairy Tale Bakery in Vegas. When they all meet with the realtor and lawyer at the new bakery location, an explosion erupts from inside the bakery. The realtor, Scott Jensen was severely burned from the aftermath of the explosion and dies from his injuries and when police investigate it turns out that the explosion was no accident.

While looking at another location for the bakery a car crashes into the front window and the new realtor injuring Tate and the new realtor. The Fairy Tale Cupcake gang wonder if these incidents are some how connected to the the man that Mel's love interest, Angie's brother who is a lawyer is now prosecuting in a case or the fact that Holly has a stalker. When a shoot out happens at Holly's mansion and Holly goes missing.

Other Suspects are lurking in the shadows and Mel and the cupcake gang want to know who does not want this bakery to happen. At the same time Mel has a choice to make when it comes to love. With a murderer on loose that's determined to have everything that happens in Vegas stay in Vegas.Mel and her friends must risk it all to find a killer in fabulous Las Vegas.

I took a trip to Las Vegas with out even going there. It was such a thrill, with all the Elvis theme mixed in from  Mel, Angie and Tates stay at the Elvis “Blue Hawaii” Themed Hotel “The Blue Hawaiian” Which I happily googled on the internet. To the Elvis Impersonator Convention and I had many laughs when Fairy Tail Bakery counter person also dressed as Elvis to try to fit in.

A very action packed romp for the Fairy Tale Bakery Gang while a killer is on the loose in Sin City. Vanilla Beaned was pure enjoyment and excitement to read and Holly had a heart of Gold And no, I'm not just saying that because this is one of my all time favorite series, There was no shortage of love for baking. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Book Review/Giveaway: Rest in Peach by Susan Furlong

 Title: Rest in Peach
 Author: Susan Furlong
Series: Book 2 Georgia Peach Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
 Rating: 4 stars
 Reviewed by: Tina

Rest in Peach is just so peachy keen. Peachy keen is also the name of Nola May Harper's new shop, where she will be displaying and selling Harper Farm's Peach Products, delicious peachy treats like peach salsa and chutney made by Nola from peaches grown on her families farm. Cade Mckenna is a contractor that will help Nola renovate her soon to open shop and he also happens to be a childhood friend and Nola's love interest.

It is soon time for the Cays Mill, Georgia Peach Cotillion.   It is a formal ball in which debutantes are presented, all strictly a high-society affair and and the young ladies of Cays Mill are gearing up for it buy purchasing dresses from Nola's friend, Hattie's dress shop. It is to be held at Congressman Wheeler's and his wife, Stephanie's plantation.

The atmosphere is filled with tension and anger in Hattie's dress shop when the daughter of the “Peach Queen” who was popular in high school, Tara and Nola's friend, Ginny who runs the local diner's daughter, Emily fight over ordering of the same dress. Tara wins the dress tug of war. Ginny becomes enraged at Vivian and vows to take her down. Vivian is found dead in Hattie's shop soon after, discovered by Nola with bloody scissors protruding from her throat, clutching the very debutante gown Ginny and Vivian were fighting over.

With a small town fill of gossip and innuendo's flying, Nola has reasons to believe that Vivian was as down right mean as the day is long and believes that Vivian  had something on almost every single Cays Mill resident, from the church organist to the ladies in the shop that day.Believing that her friend,Ginny and also a number one suspect could not have done it. But life may not be so peachy for the killer once Nola finds the truth.

Rest in peach was such a peach too read with a sweet southern back drop and featuring her family farm's tasty peaches. Nola is a conflicted character with a past, I love a great back story, that she has and she was is still tormented by making her flawed and more human to me something I could relate too in the romance department. I'm a fan of drama and Rest in Peach had no shortage of it. The Peach Cotillion is part of the Southern heritage, something I had a hard time relating too but it made a great plot for this mystery and I love learning about. Filled with murder, tension, secrets and friendships, laughs and romance. Rest in peach is a very juicy fast-moving mystery.

Charming Books has been a staple in Cascade Springs, New York for years. It is a quaint Victorian home with a birch tree growing through it to enchant the customers but the customers have no idea. Violet has been avoiding her home town for the past twelve years after suffering the loss of her best friend and being accused of her murder in the process. She vowed never to return but a call of distress from her grandmother, Daisy and she finds herself rushing to be by her side.

When Violet shows up in a panic she finds her grandmother healthy and happy to see her. Apologetic for the deception Daisy now has to convince Violet to stay in Cascade fall and take on her legacy. This gets sidetrack when Grandma Daisy's suitor, Benedict Raisin is found dead in her driveway. Violet now has to stay and find the true murderer before she can go home to Chicago and finish her dissertation in literature. Along the way she finds herself in ownership of an adorable tuxedo cat named Emerson who will not be left out of the hunt for his owner's murderer. Even though Violet has no intention of staying she will not allow her grandmother to fall victim to be falsely accused for this crime.

As emotions are storming through Violet from her past and trying to desperately get back to her future, the town and people of Cascade Springs seems to keep putting up roadblocks. She must maneuver  herself around a head strong Chief of police, bickering brothers (one who is her ex-boyfriend and the other who carried a crush for her) and a money hungry daughter of the deceased to get through the past and present of Benedict's life and what she finds is lead after dead end lead.

I loved the story, the twists and turns and the fast paced drama. It had the perfect balance of mystery and drama with a touch of magic. I also related deeply to Violet, the struggle between being dragged back into you past when you just want to keep moving forward. I find her a good strong lead, exactly what I want in my female characters. Other characters I found engaging were Grandma Daisy, Sadie, Carly, Chief Rainwater and of course Emerson.

I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

If that wasn't enough supermodel Latavia Moore who once had a relationship with Xandr and her husband accused him of theft is found murdered in her apartment.

These models are cut from the same cloth and Jessica wonders if there is a connection with these two suspicious deaths, each happening on the same day. She can't help but insert herself into the investigation of the deaths along with the New York City Police Detective who wants Jessica for more than her amateur sleuthing skills.

Xandr's fashion world is full of possible suspects including him and it's up to Jessica to unveil her latest killer. Jessica Fletcher's foray into the fashion world was stylish and very entertaining in Murder She Wrote: Design for Murder.

Although the premise of the story was not my cup of tea or something I don't relate too and show no interest in, the plot kept me engaged though out the story. It will always be a favourite series of mine that no matter the plot of the story may be Jessica Fletcher, mystery writer and ameture sleuth always has me coming back for more and if you can't help but love her.
