Trick or Treat......
During the holiday season at the most important time of the year, no not Christmas but Halloween Proper City, Nevada pulls out all the stops with town-wide festivities. It is also the busiest time for new owner of Disguise DeLImit Costume shop, Margo Tamblyn to be taken away from her work.
While she is busy taking care of her customers and making costumes for the annual Halloween Party held at the Alexandria Hotel, unknowingly to her she has been legally duped out of the festivities on part to an oversight on her and her staff's behalf. While trying to rectify this situation before her father becomes aware she may have ruined the family ran business, she will come up against some of the hardest decisions she has ever had to make.
However, Margo intends to make good with her customers and even though she isn't fully aware she has been ostracized from the event she goes anyway. By the end of the night she will have regretted that decision when she is found standing next to a dead body. The man murdered none other than Paul Haverford, a developer that has targeted Proper City to evolve from its quaintness to a mini Las Vegas. With some of the city council and businesses on board this new path for the city has made a rift in between fellow citizens and business owners.
When Margo feels she has become the sole suspect for this crime, being investigated by her secret suitor's ex-girlfriend she sets her sights on revealing the truth and proving her innocence. Along the way she must battle the affections of two men, come to terms with her father moving on from his life professionally and romantically from her mother, and juggling the ever revolving suspects that come into her preview while running the store during the busiest week of the year might do her in.
But with the help of her friend Bobbie, her therapist Willow and her cat Soot she will find her way. Although her way will be into the hands of the killer himself.
The story was thoroughly enjoyable, Margo keeps the story constantly going with her stubbornness not to back down. Which I admire in a lead character. It was a fun read, did it in one day. I chose it because the story represents and celebrates my favorite holiday. Margo is quite an eccentric character as well but although she doubts herself she also knows herself. She is also supported by a group of strong characters, some that stand out are Ebony, Tak, Francine and Kirby her sidekick, I mean employee.
