Anna Britton is finally settling into her life in Portsmouth. She is establishing ties to the community for her work as a graphic artist, increasing in friends and taking lessons on her craft with the head of her coven, Julia. She has also bonded with Alistaire, her familiar a round grey cat that belonged to the previous owner of the cottage she is presiding in. While she is establishing a new job for a mural in her friend's new coffee shop they stumble across a body.

While they thought they were on the hunt for a ghost making noises they stumbled upon something much worse and will put all their freedom's on the line due to a narrow-minded cop that has it out for the owners. Anna decides she must take their future into her own hands and with the help of her friends set out to clear their names. Along the way they will find ties to a hidden tunnel used during prohibition that leads to the Harbour's Rest Hotel.

Joined with her Grandma B.B. visiting from out of town not only will the murder investigation send sparks flying but also the resonating drama she left behind with her coven, now Anna's and her disgruntled friends whom she left so long ago. Just when all the rumors, theories, and questions start mounting into an ashing volcano about tho erupt, Anna will once again have to put her life into Alistair's and her friend's hands.

The story was very engaging and I enjoyed how fast paced it was. It gave the right level of personal drama as well. The way all the past and present families were linked together and the long time grudges being stirred up. The character's I mainly enjoyed is Anna, Julia, Grandma B.B. and Christine, I always love reading about strong independant women. We need more in reality. Although I see Kenisha as a strong independant women, I would like to see more of her in the story. I look forward to the next chapter in Anna's life.

  25. Good review! This series really piques my interest & I bought the first, "A Familiar Tail" in May although I haven't gotten to read it yet. To me, this series sounds like it has just enough of the paranormal to make it fun while keeping all the other elements of the cozy genre that I've grown to love.
