Book Review/Book Giveaway: A Familiar Tail By Delia James

 Title: A Familiar Tail
 Author: Delia James
 Series: Book 1 A Witch's Cat Mystery
 Publisher: Obsidian Mystery
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from publisher
 Star Rating: 4.5 out 5
 Reviewed by: Marlene

Annabelle Britton is a young successful Graphic Artist who hasn't found her spot in the world yet. But when she goes to visit her friend, Martine in the town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire she finds more than her spot. She will find out her family's true legacy along with a long standing feud and a chaotic mystery surrounded by one of her grandmother's long lost friend, Dorothy Hawthorne and her exceptional cat, Alistair.

Anna will soon surround herself with Dorothy's friends a coven of good witches who are seeking the truth but reluctant at the same time. Once Anna meets Dorothy's nephew Frank, who runs the local paper and strikes up a deal to find out the truth about his aunt while staying in the deceased's home. She will find out that she herself comes from a long line of witches and that being able to sense what's happen in a particular place is part of her witch heritage.

Once on her path for truth she finds herself in the middle of old and new family affairs tangled amongst the town folk of this small community. Not knowing which way to turn and only relying on Aalstair for guidance she finds herself in grave dangers. She must choose sides before they are chosen for her.

I loved the story, it was fast pace and kept me reading wondering what Anna was going to do next or what she was thinking. It was very well written and it kept me in the dark about who done it. I like when a book keeps me guessing or if I can't guess at all. Ms. James writes great characters, even minor ones. Loved Anna, Martine, Julia and of course we can't forget Alastair (he was a character himself).

I liked she wrote an independent female that was head strong on what she was doing and set out to do. Meaning Anna didn't eventually fall into the damsel in distress where a man comes and helps saves the day. Actually it was a group of women that helped save the day. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
