The allure of the book and the printed page has always mesmerized bookbinder, Brooklyn Wainwright, it is her life's passion. It surely entices all of her senses. Brooklyn and her handsome British boyfriend who was in charge of the security of the worlds most valuable art pieces who now owns a security company to do just that moves in next door temporarily to Brooklyn's parents who live on a commune California.
All the members are the commune are building a thriving community complete with a vineyard and a winery that Brooklyn's family are helping to run. There's antisipation in the air when there is to be a excavation of a storage cave to make room for a wine tasting area within the cave but when they start and break through they discover they have to break through a man made concrete wall.
While they let Brooklyn take a quick peak she discovers a dead body inside along with a treasure trove of various finds and with the mans possessions that they soon discovered was murdered was a first edition of Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. Of coarse Brooklyn thinks the book can unlock the mystery to the murdered man and the lost possessions within the cave with the secret map found inside and with the connection to Guru Bob the leader of the commune Brooklyn wants to do her own digging to unlock a age old mystery.
Brooklyn's passion for books and the printed page holds no bounds and that is how I relate to her. We both have a passion for books. She is one of my favorite characters from a cozy mystery series for that reason alone that and the fact that is always up for unlocking mysteries, crime fighting and finding the killers before the police do. It also helps that there's a handsome British man named Derek at Brookyn's sideI love a British man and imaging how he would sound when he calls Brooklyn , love makes me weak in knees and imagining Gabriel does not hurt either.
Guru Bob's family history of his family fleeing France from the Nazi Invasion was sad but at the same time interesting and it drew me so much further into the story while Brooklyn was trying to find the key to the mystery. This mystery is perfect for the book lover and a treasure and history lover those were the reasons it was so great.
