Lucy is ready for a change in her life. She is bored working for the Harvard library and is on the look out for a new challenge. She escapes to the place of her child hood, the Outer Banks where she spent her summers as a child with her Aunt Ellen and Uncle Amos. She meets up with cousin Josie and can't deny the goodies Josie makes at her bakery.
Lucy wants to escape Boston, the Harvard library and her broken relationship she left there. Aunt Ellen then gets Lucy the job of librarian assistant at Lighthouse Library on Bodie Island. A beautiful Library within a lighthouse where Lucy lives in an apartment on an upper floor.

Mr. Uppiton, the chairman of the library board is then found murdered ohhhing and awwing over priceless first addition Jane Austen novels that the library has acquired on loan for a brief period and Lucy fears that he died as Bertie was trying to protect Lucy from losing her job.

When the priceless Jane Austen first edition novels start to get stolen one by one. Lucy then decides to try to help Bertie clear her name because Lucy feels guilty for Bertie trying to protect her but it seems that Bertie is not the only one who has ill feelings about Mr Uppiton. Anyone who knew him could possibly have a motive to kill him and Lucy makes it her duty to find a killer and a thief so the law will throw the book at him.

A delightful and quaint first in a series with a picturesque and unique setting. I loved being a part of the the Lighthouse Library, I really did feel like I wanted to be there and work there. The librarians were all very charming and likable. , I just wanted to open the book just so I could visit the Lighthouse Library once again. Author Eva Gates makes you feel like you are there and are a part of the library, the mystery and the story, that is what made this book so engaging to me. I can't wait to read and review the next in the series.

  14. I was all in on this book just from looking at the cover. I'm a sucker for cats and lighthouses and have visited many of them on yearly vacations all over the East Coast. I'd love to add this new book to my growing home library. Growing so well in fact I'd love to buy the apartment next door and turn it into one large library.
