Known though out the town as "The Cat Whisperer" Kathleen Paulson has an ability to communicate with cats and it seems that her cute and cuddly felines Owen and Hercules have special ways they express themselves, shall we say. Kathleen works at the local library of Mayville Heights and is putting together a program at the library called "Reading Buddies" that promotes literacy for children.

Brutus Chapman is a man with a shady past that haunts him. His ex wife, Dayna shows up back in town after a twenty year absence and after eating a chocolate at the fundraiser for Reading Buddies, collapses and falls to her death. When it is revealed that Dayna was murdered by the chocolate Brutus then goes to Kathleen for help along with her detective boyfriend, Marcus knowing that Kathleen has helped solve past murders and Owen and Hercules are also keen on getting in on the sleuthing to find a killer.

The way that Kathleen interacted with Owen and Hercules reminded me how I sometimes talk to my cats and if your a pet owner I don't care who you are we are all guilty of it. I loved it. There were a great cast of characters. The cat duo make this mystery a joy to read with a touch of magic. A Librarian cat owner, a winning combination for a great cozy mystery like A Midwinter's Tail.

  1. Sounds like a really good book.

  2. LOL I talk to my birds all the time and they to me! I love cats but have to pass them up but I can still read about them in cozies. Thank you for including them in your books.
