What a great writing team of mom Lyn Farquhar and daughter Lisa Fitzsimmons who team up under the name of Lia Farrell.

Two Dogs Lie Sleeping is the 2nd book in their Mae December Mysteries. Set in Rosedale, Tn. we find Mae's sister July, under suspicion for the murder of her high school love, Tom Ferris. Tom dropped out of sight in his sophmore year of college and July had not seen him for 15 years.

July is putting the finishing touches on a room in Booth Mansion, that will soon be open to the public. As she works she hears a noise upstairs, running up the stairs, she hears the front door shut, who else has been there? As she reaches the nursery door, she sees a pile of rags lying there, on closer inspection she realizes it is a man, and that man is Tom Ferris. After calling 911, July rushes to his side and is holding his hand as he takes his last breath.

Sheriff Ben Bradley, Mae's boyfriend has more than his share of suspects, starting with July and then her husband Fred. But, why would July have killed the love of her life? Was Fred consumed with such jealous rage that he killed Tom? Or is it someone from their past? Ben has been pulled from the case because of the conflict of interest between his job ans his close relationship to the December family, but that doesn't stop him from working behind the scenes to bring peace to the family, and to mend his relationship with Mae.

A beautiful setting, likeable people, and several little dogs make this a book that I'm glad I read.
